Courtroom Soap Opera: Rebel Wilson Rejects 'Hacker' Accusation in Co-star's Nude-photo Controversy

The Federal Court turned briefly into a celebrity whodunit this week as Rebel Wilson emphatically denied any role in a cyberattack that exposed a co-star’s nude photo.
Charlotte MacInnes, the 27-year-old lead of The Deb — Wilson’s directorial debut — is suing for defamation. She says Wilson’s social posts suggested MacInnes lied about feeling uncomfortable when producer Amanda Ghost allegedly asked to shower and bathe together in September 2023. MacInnes denies ever making or retracting such a complaint.
MacInnes also says her Snapchat was breached, and there was an attempted Facebook breach, just days after she lodged legal proceedings in September 2025. In an affidavit she says she believes the breach was orchestrated by Wilson and that the leak caused “a new kind of anxiety.” Those claims remain contested in court.
On the witness stand, Wilson called the idea that she “moonlights as a hacker” “absolutely outrageous,” and when asked if she had directed anyone else to carry out a hack, she replied that she obviously had not. She rejected accusations of stalking MacInnes and said she’d only been trying to tell the truth — at significant personal cost.
Lawyers tussled over motive. MacInnes’ counsel suggested Wilson raised the alleged complaint after MacInnes had said things were “all good,” possibly to gain leverage in a commercial dispute with co-producers. Wilson said she received no benefit and rejects any suggestion she used the matter for advantage.
The courtroom also zoomed in on a PR angle: an unsigned agreement showed Wilson’s former US lawyer retained The Agency Group for “strategic communication services” at $25,000 a month. Wilson said the letter had been sent to her lawyer and denied commissioning the firm. The Agency Group is separately accused of creating smear websites targeting another actor — an allegation the court has heard.
For now, the case is equal parts legal argument, privacy breach and PR invoices — with a side of impending parenthood (Wilson noted her wife hadn’t yet given birth in the US). The facts will be untangled by the court; until then, it’s a reminder that fame, unfriendly digital hygiene and legal theatrics make for a combustible mix — and maybe don’t leave your Snapchat logged in.
